A family from Sharpeville was rendered holistic care. The grandmother of the family was emotionally harassed by her daughter that has mental illness due to her depression.

The daughter has a young child by the age of 6 years, whom she cannot manage well. She sees no need for the child to go to creche as she is very attached to her child. The daughter preferred to loiter the streets where she’d force her mother (grandmother) and her child to accompany her. In most cases they would be found sitting along the pavement or in isolated areas under trees, the family would be found even in winter without warm clothing because the daughter had burnt the clothing they were donated. This family was receiving donated food parcels by Care For You Health Services. Care For You Health Services assessed the need for more intervention to help this family and the help of social workers were called in to get involved in this family matter. The young child was taken to a home with the assistance of a mental health social worker, the daughter has been admitted in a hospital.

Arrangements were made by the social worker for the grandmother to have access to see her grandchild as to attain the family structure and it has been noted that the grandmother are on her way to recovering from her emotional status.
